Rumus Simple Past Tense

Artikel kali ini akan membahas tentang rumus simple past tense dan contoh kalimat simple past tense beserta artinya.
Simple past tense adalah salah satu bagian dari verb tenses yang digunakan untuk menyatakan kejadian yang terjadi dan telah berakhir di masa lalu. Sedangkan untuk menyatakan kebiasaan atau fakta umum, kita menggunakan simple present tense.

Rumus Simple Past Tense

Rumus Bahasa Inggris yang digunakan dalam simple past tense adalah sebagai berikut:

S + Verb 2 + O

Dimana S adalah Subject, Verb 2 adalah kata kerja bentuk lampau, dan O adalah Object. Kata kerja atau Verb dalam Bahasa Ingrris dibedakan menjadi 2 yaitu Regular Verb dan Irregular Verb. Untuk merubah regular verb menjadi bentuk kedua, kita hanya perlu menambahkan ED di belakang kata kerja bentuk pertamanya. Contohnya:
  • Talk – Talked
  • Start – Started
  • Ask – Asked
  • Call – Called
Sedangkan untuk irregular verb, termasuk di dalamnya to be, kata kerja bentuk pertamanya akan mengalami perubahan signifikan ketika menjadi kata kerja bentuk lampau. Contohnya:
  • Begin - Began
  • Bend - Bent
  • Drink - Drank
  • Fight - Fought
  • Fly - Flew
Untuk to be akan berubah menjadi,
  • Is, Am - Was
  • Are - Were
Selain itu, terdapat juga irregular verb bentuk kata kerja keduanya sama dengan bentuk kata kerja bentuk yang pertama. Contohnya:
  • Hit - Hit
  • Put - Put
  • Set - Set
  • Shed - Shed
  • Shut - Shut

Contoh Kalimat Simple Past Tense

Terdapat 3 jenis kalimat simple past tense yaitu simple past tense affirmative, negative, dan interrogative.

Simple Past Tense Affirmative

Rumus simple past tense affirmative adalah:

Subject + Verb 2 + Object

Contoh kalimat simple past tense affirmative
  • They chopped down the trees. / Mereka menebang pohon.
  • Jane celebrated her birthday with all of her friends. / Jane merayakan ulang tahun bersama semua teman-temannya.
  • She changed her mind. / Dia berubah pikiran.
  • They claimed the product worked best at night. / Mereka mengklaim produknya bekerja sangat baik pada malam hari.
  • She committed suicide after the breakup. / Dia bunuh diri setelah putus.
  • Dave climbed the mountain. / Dave memanjat gunung itu.
  • Andy compared the new car with the old one. / Andy membandingkan mobil barunya dengan yang lama.
  • This box contained ten oranges. / Kotak ini berisi 10 buah jeruk.
  • They counted me into the team. / Mereka memasukkan saya ke dalam tim.
  • I was broken. / Saya bangkrut.
  • She was the most beautiful girl in the group. / Dia adalah gadis paling cantik dalam grup.
  • They were crazy. / Mereka semua gila.

Simple Past Tense Negative

Kalimat simple past tense negative menggunakan rumus simple past tense sebagai berikut:

S + did + not + Verb 1+ ...

atau

S + To Be (Was / Were) + not + ...

Kita menggunakan simple past tense dalam bentuk negative untuk mempertentangkan sebuah aktivitas, situasi, maupun kejadian yang berlangsung dan sudah selesai di masa lampau. Contoh kalimat simple past tense negative:
  • I didn't work in the company. / Saya tidak bekerja di perusahan.
  • He didn't live in the big house. / dia tidak tinggal di rumah besar.
  • We didn't study in the university. /  Kami tidak belajar di universitas.
  • Diana didn't know how to make a sandwich. / Diana tidak tahu cara membuat sandwich.
  • Today I didn't have classes. / Hari ini saya tidak ada kelas.
  • My mom didn't have her purse. / Ibuku lupa membawa dompetnya.
  • I didn't jump. / Saya tidak meloncat.
  • You didn't eat breakfast. / Kamu tidak sarapan.
  • He didn't cook these fancy food. /  Dia tidak memasak makanan mewah ini.
  • She didn't write the letter. /  Dia bukan yang menulis surat.
Contoh kalimat simple past tense negative menggunakan to be:
  • I wasn't at home yesterday. / Kemarin saya tidak berada di rumah.
  • They were not students of this school. / Mereka bukan siswa sekolah ini.
  • She was not French. / Dia bukan orang Perancis.

Simple Past Tense Interrogative

Untuk membentuk kalimat simple past tense interrogative, kita menggunakan rumus simple past tense sebagai berikut.

Did + S + Verb 1 + ...

atau

Was / Were + S + ...

Contoh kalimat simple past tense interrogative:
  • Did he feel sad yesterday? / Apakah kemarin dia merasa sedih?
  • Did they watch a movie? / Apakah mereka menonton film?
  • Did he meet her? / Apa dia bertemu dengannya?
  • Did she study in the library? / Apakah dia belajar di perpustakaan?
  • Did the police find any clues? /  Apakah polisi menemukan petunjuk?
  • Did we make a cake for you? / Apakah kami membuatkan roti untukmu?
  • Did you go to the bed early? / Apakah kamu tidur cepat?
  • Did they have dinner last night? / Apakah mereka makan tadi malam?
  • Did I graduate? / Apakah saya lulus?
  • Did I become a teacher? /  Apa saya menjadi guru?
  • Was he ill? / Apa dia sakit?
  • Was she happy? /  Apa dia bahagia?
  • Was it cold? / Apakah dingin?
